Cardholders are asked to pay a surcharge fee during a credit card transaction. If the cardholder chooses to use a debit card instead, the business will be charged just 1% + $0.25 for the transaction. The payment system, whether it is a device or online, will clearly display the transaction total with the surcharge listed as a separate line item.
